Must-see dance doccie
Mirra Bank’s Last Dance will be screened by the centre on 27 October at 2pm.
This multi-award winning film sensation tracks the collaboration of the acclaimed Pilobolus Dance Theatre and legendary children’s storyteller Maurice Sendak, author of Where The Wild Things Are, as they create a haunting dance-theatre work to commemorate the ongoing legacy of the Holocaust.
Last Dance weaves together rehearsal footage, probing interviews, chilling Nazi propaganda footage and breathtaking performances, to provide viewers with a thrilling insight into the creative process. Bank focuses in particular on the dancers involved in this extraordinary project, revealing them as both creative partners and people through their athleticism, grace, and willingness to reach beyond their own boundaries.
The film is the recipient of rave reviews from critics who variously describe Bank’s work as haunting, riveting, inspiring and spectacular.
“No-holds-barred. Gorgeously produced… the film beautifully traces the birth of what may be Pilobolus’s strongest work in years,” enthused one review by the San Francisco SF Bay Guardian. Now it is the turn of local audiences to experience the must-see quality of Last Dance.
