Winners now have the opportunity to have their work displayed in Venice, Italy.

South African Pavilion’s curators Stephen Steyn, Dr Emmanuel Nkambule, and Dr Sechaba Maape held a national architecture competition named Political Animals. Competitors were invited to submit scale model-concepts depicting the structures of their schools or institutions. The top six group displays were on show at MOMO Gallery in Parktown and the winners were announced on April 26.

The Department of Sports, Arts and Culture obtained a permanent exhibition space in 2012 for a period of 20 years. Every two years, the department participates in the architecture exhibition.

“I am happy that we have won. I won’t lie all the models were beautiful and it was a tough decision for judges to choose. I can’t wait to represent South Africa in May,” said Priyan Moodley.
