Legendary stage and screen actor, Ron Smerczak bows out at 69

JOBURG – Legendary stage and screen actor, Ron Smerczak dies at 69.

On Sunday, 12 May, the South African Guild of Actors (Saga) announced the passing of revered stage and screen actor, Ron Smerczak.

Posting a heartwarming tribute on their Twitter page, Saga said Smerczak’s love for Shakespeare, stage, TV and film defined his decades of service to the industry.

“We remember him as a friend, mentor and inspiration and we offer our heartfelt condolences to his family,” Saga said.

Recently starring in Netflix’s Shadow, Smerczak has had an extensive career in film, TV and stage. He is well-known for starring in the Shaka Zulu TV series, Oh Shucks! Here Comes UNTAG, as well as in Who Am I? alongside Jackie Chan.

Smerczak was 69 at the time of his passing.
