Hillbrow police hail community efforts

HILLBROW - Police gave thumbs up to the community members who nabbed one of the three men while they were robbing a supermarket.

According to police reports the three suspects stormed in to a supermarket at the intersection of Claim and Caroline Streets.

Police spokesperson Constable Mduduzi Zondo said two suspects withdrew firearms and gun pointed the staff members.

Zondo said, “They demanded money and took an undisclosed amount of cash and tried to flee the scene.” However one of the suspects who was not armed was not that lucky as the members of the public managed to grab him but two armed criminals managed to escape.

Zondo said the police really appreciated the community’s commitment to their partnership with the police. “We are really grateful to the public’s efforts in working together with us in the fight against crime, I am sure with this kind of commitment we will succeed in curbing crime in our area.” He said the police were still on the manhunt for the two suspects who were still at large. “We are on their tails, I am sure we will make arrest very soon.”

The suspect was expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court soon. Zondo urged the public to continue with their support to the police as that would make police work much easier. He also appealed to the public to come forward with the information that can lead to the arrest of the two suspects.
