In the first week of the women’s month, Hillbrow police made a breakthrough when they arrested a man who allegedly strangled a woman to death last month.
According to police reports, the woman was murdered in the early hours of 7 July. Police spokesperson Constable Mduduzi Zondo said the incident took place at a night club at the intersection of Pretoria and Claim Streets. Zondo said the suspect allegedly murdered the deceased inside one of the rooms in the night club. He said, “The man was caught on act by the CCTV camera installed inside the rooms.”
Zondo said the motive behind the murder was unknown but the suspect allegedly fled the scene with the victim’s cellphone and an undisclosed amount of cash. He said the suspect was arrested when he visited the club again. Zondo said the 28-year-old suspect was expected to appear in Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon facing charges of murder.
