Thank you Siya Zuma and City Parks
I would like to publicly thank Siya Zuma and his colleagues at Johannesburg City Parks for their support in tending to the mature trees in Killarney.

Although City Parks has millions of trees to look after, and resources are always thin, Zuma is always willing to meet with us and to consider our requests for service delivery.
In the past three years he has pruned a number of the mature trees on our pavements, and last week he pruned the avenue of mature jacarandas in the 4th Street Park.
These trees haven’t been properly pruned for decades, and this attention was long overdue.
The avenue of jacarandas in the 4th Street Park is one of our most prized features, and we are very protective of them. Unfortunately large trees need to be pruned for their own good – a long heavy branch will eventually snap off in the wind, as nature intended.
In recent years Killarney has seen a number of large jacaranda branches fall in storms, and on one occasion an entire tree fell over and crushed a parked car.
If the falling branch represents a significant portion of the tree, it may even result in the death of that tree. We cannot replace these trees, so we need to ensure that we look after them.
We thank Zuma and his team for this valuable service.
