Police arrest 51 people in two days

JOBURG - A Routine Yeoville police stop and search operation yielded positive results as police swooped fifty people in two days for different crimes.

According to police seventeen suspects were arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol. Police spokesperson Constable Thabo Malatji said, “One suspect was arrested for murder, two for armed robbery, nine for assault with grievous bodily harm, one for possession of stolen property, and one for possession of dagga.”

Malatji added that four suspects were arrested for being in possession of car breaking implements, one for shoplifting, two for damage to property, six for public drinking and seven for being illegal immigrants. He said, “Most of the suspects were expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court soon.”
