Family killer arrested

Swift reaction by the Yeoville police led to the arrest of a man who allegedly shot and killed his daughter, and wounded his wife.

Acting on a lead, police arrested the suspect at the Beitbridge border post as he was trying to escape to Zimbabwe. Police spokesperson Constable Thabo Malatji said, ““It is alleged that the man had an argument with his wife and left them. He returned with a firearm and shot his 21-year-old daughter dead and shot his wife three times in the upper body.” He added that the daughter had one gunshot wound to the head and was certified dead on the scene. The wife was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Malatji said, “The suspect fled the scene on foot and the motive for the shooting is still unknown.” He said the police traced him through his cellphone and notified border police about the suspect. The suspect was expected to appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.
