Living Link’s budding entrepreneurs

PARKHURST – The Living Link students had a chance to put their entrepreneurial skills to the test at the centre for intellectually impaired adults’ market day.

The students went at it hammer and tongs, and produced an array of goodies including handbags, bracelets, samosas, sweets, cakes and a car wash.

The centre’s Lisa Ward said, “The students spend six months at the training centre, and the market day is their final lesson before they head off to the job sampling sites.”

The group that started in June completed the classroom section before the market day, and they were encouraged to produce their own products, define the profit, and then sell their wares.

“The students’ families and the Parkhurst community were invited, and the students did extremely well. They sold out of all their goods by the end of the morning,” said Ward.

“We all had a wonderful morning. It was such a pleasure to see how much these young adults have grown in confidence over the past six months.”
