Police nab house robber
NORWOOD - Norwood police arrested a man on suspicion of house robbery.
This after he gained entry to a Sydenham home on 9th Avenue and allegedly threatened the owner of the house.
Police said the 30-year-old suspect entered the house and hid in the bathroom. “When the owner of the house went into the bathroom, he saw the suspect hiding behind the door,” said police spokesperson Nonzwakazi Tsoanyane. The suspect then allegedly threatened to shoot the owner but didn’t produce a firearm.
Tsoanyane said the suspect tore up a towel and tried to tie up the homeowner who allegedly fled the bathroom and shouted for help. She said patrolling security officers responded to the man’s desperate call and apprehended the suspect. The police were called and promptly arrived to arrest the suspect.
The suspect was found in possession of a necklace, camera and wrist watch which belonged to the homeowner. He was detained at the Norwood Police Station.
Police are investigating how the suspect gained access to the property and house. He will appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of stolen property and house robbery.
