Police looking for hijackers
NORWOOD - Police have launched a manhunt for three suspects who hijacked a vehicle on Argyle Street in Waverly.
According to police the motorist was about to enter his parked vehicle when he noticed a silver Mercedes Benz parking next to him. Police spokesperson Nonzwakazi Tsoanyane said three men approached the motorist and “one suspect had a pistol and the other had a shotgun”.
According to police, one of the armed suspects struck the motorist with his hand and ordered him to empty his pockets, while they proceeded to search the man.
Tsoanyane said, “The suspects took his cash, [credit] cards, smartphone and car keys among other items.” The suspects then ordered the motorist to lie on the ground while they harassed the motorists’ friend.
A few moments later the suspects refocused their attention on the motorist. “This time they took the motorist’s silver VW Polo and sped away,” said Tsoanyane.
She appealed to members of the public who may information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to come forward.
