Police nab armed robber

JOBURG - A suspect, who is allegedly linked to an armed robbery in Norwood, was apprehended by Norwood police after he was found in possession of a firearm.

Police spokesperson Nonzwakazi Tsoanyane said a woman allegedly heard a fellow colleague in her office, located on William Road in Norwood, screaming. Tsoanyane said, “The woman walked to the passage to check on her colleague. She then saw a man with a firearm who forced the two women into a corner at gunpoint.”

The suspect allegedly told the women that he wanted money, cellphones and laptops. “He took R400 cash and an iPhone before threatening to shoot the women if they screamed,” said Tsoanyane. The suspect then fled the scene, leaving the women unharmed and drove off in a VW Polo.

Later that day police received a call from a security company about a suspicious vehicle on Hope Street in Mountain View. “Upon arrival, police found a man matching the description of the suspect,” said Tsoanyane.

Police searched the man and inside the boot of the vehicle. They found a firearm, a knife and cable ties. The suspect was arrested and is expected to appear in court soon.
