Police hunt hijackers

NORWOOD - Police are investigating a case of kidnapping and hijacking after a delivery man was driven several kilometres in a stolen vehicle.

According to police a man was delivering a new vehicle at a car dealership at Cross Street in Birnam. Police spokesperson Constable Nonzwakazi Tsoanyane said, “While the man was off-loading the vehicle from a truck, he was approached by two men.”

Tsoanyane said one of the suspects, who was wearing a white jacket, pointed a firearm at the delivery man, who was already inside the vehicle. “The suspects instructed the man to move from the drivers’ seat and lie flat on his stomach on the the passenger seat,” said Tsoanyane.

The suspects allegedly drove to a petrol station where they poured petrol in the vehicle and drove all the way to the Nelson Mandela Children’s Home where they dropped off the delivery man, said Tsoanyane. She added that the vehicle was a grey Toyota Fortune with an estimated value of R400 000.

Police appealed to members of the public who may have information that could lead to an arrest to come forward.
