Joburg storms Bastille

British indie rock band, Bastille played their biggest headline gig to date at the Johannesburg Botanic Gardens.

An incredible 15 000 people descended on the venue where they rocked and stomped to hits like Pompeii and Things We Lost in the Fire.

Event promoter Mike Pocock said, “Visibly thrilled to have such a huge South African fan base, the band’s energy was contagious as the sold-out crowds fed off their enthusiasm. The day couldn’t have gone any better.”

Bastille kept their number one single Pompeii for the finale, and invited local band Bed on Bricks to join them on stage for the closing number.

The crowd also had the opportunity to take in an interactive set by South African music sensation Matthew Mole.

“His quirky conversation had the crowd chuckling while grooving to his folk-electronica beats,” said Pocock.

Cape Town-based band Beatenberg also performed at the event.
