Two men were found in possession of a large bag filled with bank and account statements belonging to residents living in Craighall and Craighall Park.

This came after Montecasino security performed a stop and search of cars leaving the casino after being alerted to a ‘smart’ silver car being used during armed robberies in the CraigPark and Linden areas.

It was reported that a gang involved in armed robberies in the area was caught on CCTV.

According to Craighall Resident’s Association spokesperson, Wendy McAllister, various cars were searched at Montecasino as they left and one was found carrying undelivered letters belonging to people living in the area.

“What seems clear is that this is the new way of checking who may have just bought the latest model TV, jewellery or something else and as well check whose bank accounts make them look ‘rich’ – these are the people who may be targeted,” said McAllister.

She suggested that residents be weary if they receive their credit card and bank statements via post.

“Anyone who gets their statements mailed to them should rather contact their bank as soon as possible and have these sent by email,” she explained.

The Parkview police were notified and responded to the matter.
