Hijacker nabbed
BALFOUR PARK – Norwood police have arrested a suspect for attempted hijacking in Balfour Park.
Police spokesperson Constable Nonzwakazi Tsoanyane said the female victim was in her car with the keys in the ignition.
“She was busy on the phone when a male wearing a red T-shirt suddenly appeared next to the vehicle,” she said.
Tsoanyane said the suspect opened the door and threatened to kill the woman if she did not hand over the car keys. “The woman noticed the suspect did not have a firearm, so she took the keys out of the ignition and got out of the vehicle.”
The suspect allegedly grabbed the keys from the woman and drove off in the car.
“The woman screamed and the security guard refused to open the boom gate.” The suspect then jumped out of the vehicle and tried to flee the scene.
He was arrested on Athol Road in Highlands North and is due to appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
