The case of the big hole

Letter to the Editor.

Charles Munro of Kew writes:

About six months ago a leak in an underground pipe was reported to the municipality.

The municipality duly came out and dug a great big hole in the road and then found the leak. It was then left like that with the leak filling the hole with water.

They then returned a few weeks later and fitted a water meter on the pavement outside our property. At that stage nothing was done about the big hole and the leaking pipe.

Weeks went by and they returned to paint yellow markings on the road right outside the entrance to our property.

A few more weeks later they returned once more and dug another big hole at the markings they had painted at the entrance to our property. They did not bother to cover the hole so we had to find our own means of covering the hole so that we could get in and out of our property.

Many more weeks went by and then the municipality returned, supposedly fixed the leak and filled in the holes.

The palisade fence was also damaged. It was originally put up by the municipality many years ago, so it is their property and should be repaired by them.
