Yeoville police success
YEOVILLE – Police had a busy weekend as they arrested two suspects for serious crimes.
Police arrested a suspect for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. According to police, members of the Alexandra Taxi Association noticed a minibus taxi travelling in Yeoville at the corner of Cavendish Road and Louis Botha Avenue. Police spokesperson Constable Thabo Malatji said the members stopped the taxi as it was travelling on the wrong route. Malatji said, “The driver of the minibus taxi pulled out a firearm and threatened the complainants.”
He said the members managed to overpower him and called the police. The suspect was arrested and detained at Yeoville Police Station. Malatji said the serial number of the firearm was filed off. Malatji added, “We thank the members of the association for the good work they do in the community.”
In the other incident, a man was arrested for being in possession of a hijacked vehicle in Yeoville. Malatji said the police received a call from the tracking company about a signal being received from a hijacked vehicle.
Malatji said, “The police recovered the vehicle at the corner of Raleigh Street and Bedford Road with one occupant.”
The suspect was arrested and detained at Yeoville for being in possession of a hijacked motor vehicle. Both suspects were expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.
