Victims of police killings receive support

The Hillbrow police cluster has launched the Employee Health and Wellness campaign.

The initiative, which is the brainchild of Hillbrow Police Station officer, Captain Christopher Joseph, aims to support children orphaned as the result of police killings.

The campaign is in partnership with Pick n Pay, Turquoise Harmony Institute and Unilever.

Pick n Pay donated various food parcels to families of slain police officers and the institute sponsored a trip for the officers’ orphaned children within the cluster to Cape Town’s Table Mountain and Robben Island.

Speaking at the launch, Major General Mzwandile Mzamane said he was humbled by the initiative and was looking forward to implementing similar projects throughout all the provinces.

“What you are doing today in Hillbrow cluster is equivalent to writing your name in the deceased family members’ hearts,” he said. “Although they have lost their loved ones, their loss will not be in vain because through this initiative they have found new families, even outside the police force in the form of those who sponsored the campaign.”
