A smart gardener’s clever action in Gresswold assisted his employer and the Bramley police to arrest four suspects for house robbery, attempted murder and being in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
A gardener’s smart action led to the arrest of four suspects by Bramley police for house robbery, attempted murder and being in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
According to police the suspects jumped over the fence of the gardener’s employer’s house in Gresswold. They broke a window and gained entry into the house. Bramley police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the suspects held the employer and the gardener’s co-worker at gunpoint. They tied up the two using shoelaces.
Maphakela said the gardener who was outside, saw what was happening and pressed the panic button. “Security guards responded to the alarm,” said Maphakela. “Upon the arrival of the security guards, the suspects started shooting at them and a shootout ensued.”
He said one of the security guards was shot in his thigh and hand. Two suspects, one who was wounded, managed to run away while the security guards managed to arrest the other two suspects in possession of two firearms.
Maphakela said, “The police managed to arrest the wounded suspect while he was trying to get treatment at Alexandra Clinic together with the man who took him to the clinic.”
The suspects are expected to appear at Alexandra Magistrate’s Court.
