Car thieves nabbed
A swift move by Sandringham police led to the arrest of car thieves whom police suspect that they were part of a syndicate in Bramley View.
According to police a white Nissan 1400 bakkie was reported stolen in Moroka, Soweto on the day.
Sandringham police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the tracker company located the car in Bramley View. Maphakela said, “When the tracker personnel arrived in Bramley View the signal directed them to a house. They looked over the wall and saw three men trying to grind the engine number off of the vehicle they were looking for.”
Mapahakela said the tracker personnel called the police who responded immediately and caught the suspects red-handed. Maphakela said the police also found an Isuzu KB bakkie which was reported stolen in Thembisa last month.
“We also found numerous registration plates belonging to cars reported stolen around Gauteng and Boitekong, North West.” He said the suspects told police that there was another accomplice who had gone to buy food, but never returned. The police traced and arrested him in Alexandra. The owner of the house was also arrested.
The suspects appeared at Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court and they were remanded in custody until their next appearance on 17 April.
