Five robbery suspects nabbed

Yeoville police arrested five suspects in connection with an armed robbery at the corner of Rockey and Raymond streets.

According to police, a woman was dropped off by a vehicle after which she was approached by five men armed with knives.

Yeoville police spokesperson Constable Thabo Malatji said the suspects threatened her with the knives and robbed her of her cellphone. Malatji said, “The suspects managed to escape from the scene and the woman saw a police van patrolling around the area and alerted them.”

He said the police managed to apprehend all the suspects and the victim’s cellphone was recovered. The suspects were expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court.
