Payton Peters recovering at home
Although Payton Peters has had cochlear implant surgery, it is still a long way to go before she can get her hearing back.
Her mother, Michelle van Zyl, told the North Eastern Tribune that her daughter was responding well to the operation and was enjoying being back at her Linksfield home and to be in her own bed.
However, her family needs to raise money for the two-year-old’s sound processors.
She said, “Our first payment needs to be made in two weeks’ time. We only need to sell 40 raffle booklets [10 tickets per book] in order to raise this money. The tickets are R300 each.”
Van Zyl added that they would also be hosting a Help Payton Hear auction on 23 August at the Broadacres shopping centre.
“We are busy collecting items to auction. It can be literally anything. If anyone would like to donate anything we can auction off please contact me. It can be spa or shopping vouchers, alcohol, sports memorabilia, art, electronics – anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated,” she said.
Van Zyl said the devices needed to be switched on before Payton is two and half years old, which is in August.
Payton’s operation was performed at the Union Hospital in Alberton and cost her family more than R750 000 as their medical aid would not cover any of the costs.
She lost her hearing in May 2013 after a respiratory infection.
