In a separate but related incident, Captain Sandile Mkhize and Constable Oswald Nzama spotted a suspicious white Toyota Corolla within the vicinity, which also had one occupant, a search recovered a Norinco firearm with ammunition.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Lloyd Ramovha said they believed the two suspects could have been in cahoots and could have had accomplices, however further patrolling yielded no success.

The suspects were detained and will appear in the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court to face charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, amongst others.

Ramovha praised the hard work of his colleagues. “Keep up the good work,” he said.
