EXCLUSIVE: Eyewitness account of fatal taxi rank shooting
JOBURG - Taxi violence resulted in the death of at least one person at Noord Taxi Rank in the CBD this morning.

According to a commuter at the taxi rank, who did not wish to be named, at least 12 shots rang out during the morning peak-hour rush.
“There were lots of bullets lying around after the shooting. There was one lady who was shot in the back, another was shot in the arm. And a taxi driver was lying dead next to his taxi,” he said.
The taxi rank, which is one of the busiest in the region, was packed to capacity at the time of the shooting. The eyewitness reported that the rank was completely closed following the shooting, barring one lane being used as an entrance and exit.
“I ran away, I was scared for my life. But when it was over, I managed to get close enough to see what had happened,” he added.
He said that he believed the violence was related to two separate taxi associations, who were using the same Randburg route.
According to the police there were two suspects involved, and they were spotted driving a red golf. Police spokesperson Constable Mikateko Bila said police will issue an update later.
This is a developing story, more information will follow as it becomes available.
