Wipro holds fun run
MELROSE – About 700 employees of IT company Wipro, and their friends and family participated in the global Spirit of Wipro Run.
The event was held in 110 cities across the world with 63 000 participants. The local event was held at the James and Atholl Grey Park in Melrose. The theme for 2014 was For the Long Run.
A cheque of R100 000 was handed over to the Slovo Centre of Excellence, a NGO which runs outreach programmes for orphans and vulnerable children.
Business director of Wipro Africa Region, Shailendra Singh said, “The Spirit of Wipro Run exemplifies the idea of endurance in personal and corporate life. We believe that planning for the long run is an important and responsible life and business skill.”
Founder of the centre Lorraine Cockrell thanked Wipro for the donation. “This will make it possible for the centre to continue the outreach work being done for our beneficiaries,” she said.
