Pupils reminded of their heritage

LOMBARDY EAST - Rea Gola Pre-Primary School celebrated Heritage Day in style.

Staff members and pupils wore traditional costumes and brought their traditional food from home to share.

The event took place on 23 September at the school premises housed at the Lombardy East Methodist Church.

One of the teachers, Boitumelo Lebese talked the pupils through the food tasting while explaining its origins and history behind it.

The children were also taught about the different traditional attires.

Julia Maponya told the North Eastern Tribune that the school had also invited a dance group from neighbouring Alexandra to teach the pupils about traditional dance.

Maponya added that the school was compliant with the education department’s early childhood development programme. She said parents willing to enrol their children could contact her.
