Old Eds return to winning ways
JOBURG - After their disappointing loss to Caxton Khosa the previous week, the Old Eds Premier team beat Lenasia by seven wickets.
Provincial player, Devon Conway, shone with both the ball and then the bat.
The home team failed to establish any real partnerships, as all bowlers kept a tight line. Old Eds were always in control. The wickets were shared evenly between Matthew Varner (2/21), Forrester Smith (2/25) and Conway (2/29) as Lenasia were all out for 181.
Led by Conway who scored an unbeaten 74, Eds continued their stranglehold on the game and won comfortably by seven wickets. Murray Workman, who was still there at the end on 32, was an ideal foil to Conway as the victory target was easily chased down. Daniel van der Berg weighed in with 32.
Old Eds remain in fourth position on the log as University of Johannesburg, who are at the top of the log, Jeppe Old Boys and Khosa all won their matches. Old Eds have already played the teams above them, so although the chances of regaining the title are slim at best, there is every chance that they could move up the table as only five points separate second to fourth. The teams above them will drop points when they go head to head, between now and the end of the season.
