Bring a sneaker and party
MABONENG - The rising fascination with the sneaker lifestyle has motivated Odd Generation to host a sneaker party, the Sneaker Xchange.
The Sneaker Xchange, aimed at promoting sneaker and street culture, will be held at Club Zen in Maboneng on 30 November.
One of the organisers, Sibusiso Zulu, invited sneaker fanatics to bring a pair of their old sneakers and perhaps swap them for someone else’s pair.
“The concept [of exchanging sneakers] came about after we realised the fast growing sneaker culture worldwide and in South Africa,” he said.
Pointing out that it is not just about the exchanging of shoes, Zulu said the event is also aimed at giving young fashion designers a platform to market themselves and showcase themselves not only as artists, but also as entrepreneurs.
“We want to promote the sneaker culture and also educate and introduce the culture by showcasing the opportunities in the industry,” he said.
“We are hoping to attract every creative person, organisation or group that is interested in sneaker culture and street culture.
The organisers are also encouraging those interested in attending to bring an old, but wearable, pair of sneakers to donate to charity.
