Police widows and orphans supported
NORWOOD – In the spirit of ubuntu over the Christmas period, Norwood Mall has donated a fully-loaded trolley to the widows and orphans of the police killed in the line of duty.
The event was attended by high ranking provincial officials and the centre’s manager Stefan Botha handed over a filled trolley together with R9 000 in cash. Botha stated that the mall worked with the public and its customers who donated money and other valuables towards the project which was set up to assist and support the families of the deceased. He said it was the fourth year that the mall had been involved in the project. Botha said, “We decided to embark on this project to show our support to police by supporting the widows and orphans. We believe it is for a good cause. We are proud to contribute towards this project, we thank the public who worked with us. We hope to contribute more in the future.”
In words of appreciation, Major General Makhosazana Maloka said, “This project started as a very small project but now in its fourth year has grown into this magnitude, It’s very much appreciated by the police management. This comes very handy as it brings smiles to the widows and orphans of the men and women in blue who lost their lives protecting the nation. Thank you for your unwavering support and heart-felt contribution towards this project known as Angels in Blue. We are humbled by the gesture.”
One of the would-be beneficiaries, Mbali Vilonkulu who lost her father last year, said, “I really appreciate what I see today, I just lost my words, and I don’t know what to say. I thank the people who support us. I am also proud of my father who was killed last year.”
