THE ATMOSPHERE was full of excitement on 14 January at St Mary’s Junior School as the new Grade 1 class prepared for their first day.

Many of the girls were new to St Mary’s and were proud to be wearing the prestigious school’s uniform.

Kathy Mittendorf, a member of staff, said, “The rainy weather certainly did not dampen the spirits of the new Grade 1 class.”

Des Hugo, the primary school headmistress, said, “To prepare our children for the changing world and their eventual working environment, the St Mary’s Junior School’s programme is holistic, relevant and rigorous. The programme has a strong academic core, stimulating creative ability and thinking. The building of a deep personal resilience forms the foundation of our current curriculum. As a local school in a global context, we celebrate our 125-year history and acknowledge where we come from. We strive for international best practice to ensure quality teaching and learning. The result is an effective school which is constantly improving and which develops children to form relations with the world.”
