Hyde Park High School matric pupils excel

HYDE PARK - The matric group of 2014 achieved a 97 percent pass rate and 78 percent of all pupils achieved a bachelor degree pass.

Top achiever Marc De Marigny achieved eight distinctions and was placed in the top 1 percent of IEB matric entries for last year. “A remarkable record for a pupil who was also a senior councillor and participated in swimming and debating for the school,” said Avril Wright, the communication secretary at the school. “The top achiever has maintained an 80 percent aggregate all through high school,” she said.

De Marigny was also a member of the Mintek Science Quiz team in Grade 11 and 12 and obtained full academic colours in Grade 11. De Marigny plans on studying a Bsc in Geomatics.

Super achiever Christie Lawson received seven distinctions and has remained in the top 10 for Grade 11 and 12. Lawson was a senior councillor in Grade 12 and an active member of the first aid team. She achieved full colours for debating, played netball and participated in athletics.

Lawson plans to study medicine this year, specialising in orthopaedic surgery.
