Netflix makes its way to South Africa
JOBURG - Netflix, a provider of on-demand Internet streaming media established in 1997, is now making itself available to South Africans.
The company has been providing the public with video rentals and streaming capabilities that have allowed more than 10 million subscribers (in 2009) to view their favourite TV series’.
With the rise in the number of TV series that have made it to commercial viewing platforms, the demand for a video media provider has grown immensely and it is for this reason that Netflix has decided to include 200 more countries to their catchment area as a part of their global expansion strategy.
The expansion that was meant to occur as part of the provider’s strategy, reported by Netflix CEO Reed Hastings and CFO David Wells, will be underway and complete in two years which is a shorter time frame than they expected.
Creators of the service provider have said it could go completely global by 2016 and be generating profits promptly in 2017.
The provider gives subscribers access to titles such as How I Met Your Mother, Orange is the New Black and many other’s that are in high demand.
The network has also received a number of high profile awards and nominations including a Golden Globe Award and a Primetime Emmy Award.
