UPDATE: Stolen dog found
PARKTOWN - A beloved dog was stolen by car thieves on 5 March in Parktown, and has been reunited with her owners five days later.
Bev Schultz had her 1994 white BMW 330i stolen from the parking lot of a restaurant, her dog Josie was sleeping in the back seat and taken along with the car.
“Loosing the car is one matter, but not knowing what has happened to Josie is far more traumatic,” said Schultz.
Josie is a 12-year-old black female Labrador-cross-Spaniel with grey and white on her face and chest.
Schultz describes her dog as a gentle old girl. “[She] is well known to the dog walking community at Emmerentia [dog park] as the old lady,” she said.
Josie’s owners were deeply concerned for her well-being and appealed extensively through social media to members of the public to keep a look out for her.
Through the goodwill of others, Josie’s picture and description was circulated online, which ultimately resulted in her safe return.
According to Schultz, on 10 March at around 9.30am, Booysens SPCA called to inform her husband that they had found a dog matching Josie’s description.
“We were reunited with an ecstatic dog who is unharmed and seemingly not traumatised,” said Schultz.
“She was found by a guard at a legal firm in Richmond, yesterday. He conferred with the receptionist who in turn, called the SPCA. She was fetched and held overnight until her identity was verified.”
“This is a truly amazing story highlighting the humanity, goodness and kindness within so many people, and we are so grateful…words cannot express this gratitude,” Schultz added.
Schultz and her husband made a donation to the SPCA, and they will also be rewarding the security guard who found Josie.
The case docket for the stolen vehicle is in the process of being transferred to Hillbrow Police Station and will be assigned an investigating officer.
