De La Salle public speakers shine

VICTORY PARK - PUBLIC speakers from De La Salle Holy Cross College preformed very well at this year's public speaking festival.

The 52nd Festival of Public Speaking was organised by the South African Guild of Speech and Drama Teachers.

The festival ran from 16 February to 16 March and consisted of several events held at various schools around Johannesburg.

De La Salle Holy Cross College entered 10 teams in the open category and each team did the school proud by being awarded either the second highest or the highest marks of the evening.

Public speaking captain, Caitlin Mahony, handled herself in an exceptional and professional manner in the individual section by achieving an A-Plus score for her prepared and impromptu speeches.

The elite team from the college also proved to be strong competition by scoring an A in an extremely tough section.

Ms M. Hamilton, a teacher in charge of public speaking, said, “Congratulations to all the speakers especially those individuals who spoke in front of a formal audience for the first time.”
