UPDATE: Central Methodist Church catches fire
JOBURG – According to Gift of the Givers spokesperson, Emily Thomas, a number of people have been displaced, and a few of them are staying at a camp in Mayfair.
Update, 14 May, 1.20pm:
“We brought in about 20 people to the camp, including mothers and children,” Thomas said.
Thomas explained that most of them were South Africans, and that they were expected to stay at the camp for 7 days.
Original story, 14 May, 11.45am:
It has been confirmed that the Methodist Church in Johannesburg caught fire in the late hours of 13 May.
The cause of the fire is still unknown and police are still investigating.
In a Twitter post, the church thanked Gift of the Givers for their assistance.
