St Mary’s celebrates its 127th birthday

WAVERLEY- St Mary's School celebrated its 127th birthday on 21 May, making it the oldest school for girls in Johannesburg.

Tamsyn Damant, a Grade 10 pupil, and Bongiwe Bongwe, St Mary’s head girl, both coincidentally share their birthdays on 21 May.

The day’s festivities began with the school celebrating the Patronal Eucharist.

This was followed by a picnic where the matric girls cooked eggs and bacon, the birthday cake was cut with great ceremony and the schoolgirls closed off the day with their traditional war cry Oh When the Saints.
