Woman finds chewed bubble gum on her KFC burger
DURBAN – A KFC customer in Durban has claimed to have discover chewed-up bubble-gum on the bun of her Crunch Burger on 25 July.
Danri Kruger shared the picture of the bubble gum on her burger bun, which she had purchased from the Bluff Towers KFC branch in Durban on Facebook.
“I took a few bites of the burger only to realise something odd on the inside of my burger wrapping. After [a] closer inspection, I was disgusted to find out it was bubble gum. I didn’t see it at first because bread had stuck to it,” Kruger said.
Kruger claimed that she went back to the KFC branch to show the manager, who inspected the burger and responded by saying that she would have a talk with the kitchen and give a warning to whoever was responsible, as chewing bubble gum or anything in the kitchen is prohibited. Kruger was fully refunded for her meal but was unsatisfied with the way the incident was handled, as she believed the person responsible should get more than just a mere warning.

KFC promptly responded to Kruger’s post on Facebook with the following, “Hi Danri, allow us the opportunity to investigate this matter for you, then provide you with feedback. Please inbox us your contact number so that we can give you a call to get further details from you. Team KFC|GM.”

KFC launched an investigation and responded with the following statement. “We would like to reiterate that we have a strict policy that forbids the chewing of gum in our kitchens. We have interviewed the team members on duty at the food preparation station and they have denied chewing gum, saying they know it’s not policy. We have also interviewed other members of staff on duty and no one else has admitted seeing them eating gum. Our team is committed to hygiene and food safety, and we have again reinforced our standards with the team members at this store as a reminder.”
KFC South Africa has contacted Kruger and the matter has been settled.
