BREAKING: Captured Parktown North resident may be released by Mali Al-Qaeda militants (VIDEO)
PARKTOWN – It has been reported that the Parktown North resident who was kidnapped in Mali by Al-Qaeda militants in 2011, might finally be coming home, thanks to release negotiations conducted by South African Gift of the Givers Foundation.
A video posted on YouTube by the foundation on 1 December, showed McGown alive and unharmed, with him stating that he is grateful for the foundations efforts and the hope of being reunited with his family.
“I understand that I will be seeing you soon,” McGown said in the video.
Stephen McGown, a Parktown North resident has been held captive along with a Swedish national, Johan Gustafsson for four years. McGown’s wife, Catherine, last received proof that he is alive in June, 2013.
The foundation reportedly stated that they feel the footage is credible and realistic, and that progress for the release of both the captive men will be made although it could still be a long process.
