Reading it right at Japari

CRAIGHALL – Japari School invited parents to a fun morning of reading with their children.

Reading and writing form the basis of all education. If there were no readers ever, writers would have no reason to write.

This is why Japari School in Craighall created their reading department, which is a unique feature of the school, and aims to develop reading strategies in each pupil to enable them to become eager and independent readers.

“The department recently hosted their annual ‘early morning read-a-long’,” said spokesperson for the school, Adri Basson.

“Parents were invited to spend some quality time reading with their children and to enjoy a small breakfast of muffins and coffee. There was a wonderful response and fun was had by all.”

The goals of the Japari reading department are to:

  • Develop phonological awareness
  • Improve oral expressive vocabulary
  • Foster reading fluency and comprehension
  • Develop an appropriate written response.
