SA’s champion readers

HOUGHTON – Four St John's Preparatory pupils will compete in New Zealand for the World Championships of the Kids' Lit Quiz.

St John’s Preparatory in Houghton wishes warm congratulations to the 2016 winners of the South African Kids’ Lit Quiz, Ydhan Naidoo, James Hoole, Gregory Cheadle and Khelan Desai who are in Grade 6.

After a convincing win in the Johannesburg Regional Round of the Kids’ Lit Quiz, the team went on to the SA finals where they came up against 10 other teams of the best readers from around South Africa.

After five rounds of extremely tough questions about books and reading, the boys emerged as the South African champions.

The Kids’ Lit Quiz is the brainchild of New Zealander, Wayne Mills who travels to seven countries across the world quizzing children on their literary knowledge. The quiz has been dubbed ‘the Olympics of reading’ and it includes questions on anything ever written for children – a very broad topic.

These well-read boys are off to New Zealand in August to compete in the World Championships of the Kids’ Lit Quiz in Auckland.
