Gail Mabalane talks business
JOHANNESBURG – You’ve seen her in The Wild and more recently in the tele-novel series, The Road on Mzanzi Magic, but there’s more to actress, model, media socialite, singer and businesswoman Gail Mabalane.than meets the eye.
“When you love what you do, every day can be an adventure,” said Mabalane.
“I actually remember being very confused as a young person post matric. I’ve tried my hand in accounting, human resources and finally settled on public relations.” She got her big break after entering SA Idols in 2010 and making it to the Top 10. “That opened doors to my acting career.”
The acting industry has treated her well for the five years she’s been in it, but what pleases her most is the number of women who are now breaking into the limelight. “I’m happy and proud to see more writers writing lead roles for women, and happy to see our industry create more work for actors and actresses,” she said.
However, Mabalane is not only a star of the screen, she’s also an incredibly hard-working businesswoman. In 2014, she created and launched her own body care range of body-wash creams, hand sanitisers, hand-and-nail creams and more, called Body Language.
“The name Body Language came about when I became very aware of the impact of first impressions. People often introduce themselves before they even speak, so a positive sense of self, which ultimately reflects in our body language is crucial. I want to use this brand to encourage people to become aware of how they see and think of themselves.”
Mabalane sees Body Language as an extension of who she is. “I’m passionate about the development and empowerment of young women. With the Body Language message, I hope to encourage young women through my talks and Body Language sessions.”
She added that she hoped to contribute positively to the lives of young women by imparting and encouraging self-love.
