Joburg’s first CityRun

JOHANNESBURG – The first official FNB Joburg 10k CityRun is set to take place on 24 September as runners, walkers and fitness fundi’s take to the streets to explore their city.

Set to take place on National Heritage Day on 24 September, the CityRun will consist of a fast-paced, flat route that anyone can take on.

Participants will be able to explore some of Jozi’s most iconic landmarks including the Nelson Mandela Bridge, FNB Bank City, Constitution Hill, Mary Fitzgerald Square, Wits University, Neighbourgoods Market and Ellis Park Stadium, to name a few.

Michael Meyer, managing director of Stillwater Sports, described the event as being a ‘runner’s dream come true’. “Not only will thousands of runners share the streets with world-class athletes, but the excitement, vibrancy and energy that the event will bring to the centre of Johannesburg will be exceptional,” he said.

“We believe the event will support the regeneration of the urban centre of Johannesburg and will provide the ideal opportunity for Johannesburg to showcase itself as a world-class city.”

Stillwater Sports has teamed up with First National Bank, radio station, 947, and Puma for this one-of-a-kind event.

“FNB is proud to sponsor the FNB Joburg 10k CityRun. Our involvement affirms our commitment to providing an experience for participants through an inclusive sport that many multi-cultural citizens of Jozi can identify with,” said Themba Mabizela of FNB.

The sponsors are not the only ones who are excited to get the event underway. Already, Twitter users have been sharing the event information and tagging friends and family in a bid to get people on board and show their support.

When participants are entering online, they can choose to donate to either or both of the FNB Joburg 10k CityRun charities which are the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation and the Johannesburg SPCA.

The FNB Joburg 10k CityRun will take place on 24 September at 8am from FNB Bank City in Johannesburg.

Entries are open from 19 April.

Entry prices range from R160 to R650.
