Parktown Girls raise R21 100 for charity

PARKTOWN – Pupils raise thousands for charity.

Parktown High School for Girls’ Bling Day saw them raise R21 100 for their chosen charity.

On 22 April the school held their annual Bling Day which was cartoon character themed. Bling Day is the day on which the register classes draw pictures on the drive and fill the pictures with the coins they collected. Adding to the excitement, this year the register teachers were dressed up as their class’ character.

Each house was assigned a cartoon and each register class was given a specific character from that cartoon to draw. The school said the images created by the classes were amazing and a lot of money was raised for the chosen charity – Pathways, a home for disabled people.

Helen Halley, who is a teacher in charge of Potted Sports explained that Potted Sports is a Grade 11 committee which spends the year raising funds for charity. “They start with the Grade 8 Stay Awake, then they have Bling Day and it culminates in Potted Sports Day which is on the school’s birthday, later on in the year,” explained Halley. She added that those are their main fundraising events.

The characters that the pupils chose/drew and decorated with coins for Bling Day were Spongebob (Gary the snail, Sandy Cheeks, Plankton, Squidward, Patrick); Regular Show (Mordecai Pops, Benson, High Five Ghost, Rigby); The Simpsons (Krusty the clown, Marge, Bart, Chief Wigggum, Otto); Imaginary Friends (Mr Herriman, Bloo, Coco, Wilt, Eduardo); Adventure time (Ice king, Princess Bubblegum, Finn the Human, Marceline the Vampire Queen, Flame Princess); and Power Puff Girls (She, Mojo Jojo, The Mayor, Him, Professor Utonium).
