After seven months out of circulation, the War Store has found a new home on Bolton Road in Parkwood.
Alan Coleman, owner of the store, said it took a month of building and setting up before the store could open its doors on 11 June.
The War Store buys and sells badges, uniforms, books, movies, medals and many other interesting prized items of combat. Coleman said they have expanded their products and have been able to acquire a lot more because the new premises is much bigger.
The inside coffee area boasts with a grass-like floor covering and a mural of Red Army Faction pilots waiting to take off for action at the battle of Britain.
Once complete, the coffee shop will extend to an outdoor area which will also be utilised as a braai area. “Here we can do functions, breakfast and lunches for military enthusiasts,” said an excited Coleman.
The unique change rooms in the new store are designed to resemble a warfare trench. “We are still going to put barbed wire to complete the feel. We’ve got two phases and this is phase one.”
Coleman is thrilled to be up and running and hopes military fanatics and collectors will enjoy the treasures he has in store.
