Innovator, music maker, inspiration, sound guy – who are you, Naming James?
Jamie Acheson, better known by his stage name Naming James, started his career at age 14 when he got the sudden interest in learning to play guitar and later learned that he was interested in other parts of the music making process.
“What I realised now, in hindsight… that it was actually the word that drew me to music – the writing of songs and the message. The best way to get a message across is soaked in rhythm and melody.”
Since finding his musical voice in high school, the music maker has performed at every type of event imaginable – from weddings to clubs and everything in-between – but also found a passion for teaching.
“I have a lot of fun doing it and I wouldn’t [make and perform music] if I didn’t love it so much and that’s the point of music. It’s to share your love with everyone else and maybe they can be reminded of their own love, whatever it may be. Music goes the quickest to your heart.”
He explained that in his quest to reach people through music, he found inspiration in honest music – the music that inspires the listener, even if they don’t understand why, and looking forward he aims to keep making music as honestly as possible.
“Every day is a new challenge, but I’d like to hold the same principles as the day I started,” he said.
Finally, it was imperative that City Buzz found out why he chose his odd stage name. “It annoys me now because it seems quite cryptic and weird. I just felt that I’d rather not have a name, I’d rather let the music name me,” he concluded
