Summerwood Primary School to host fun day in Fairmount to raise funds

FAIRMOUNT – There will be lots of fun and giveaway prizes for all.

Summerwood Primary School will host a family fun day on 24 June at Summerway Sports Field in Fairmount as part of a community building event.

The family fun day will be an annual event designed to bring the schooling community together for a day of fun, sports and community building.

This is according to the organiser, David Govender, who said the event serves as a fundraising initiative earmarked to support the school.

“The event is a fundraising initiative. Our school is raising funds to perform maintenance of our learners’ toilets. We need to install new toilets, urinals, sinks and basins and paint.

“The event is open to everyone. It is the first of its kind and going forward, it will become an annual event,” said Govender.

Funds raised in the subsequent years will be used for maintenance of school facilities or for curriculum-related improvements.”

There will be a variety of fun-filled activities including a six-aside soccer tournament, seven-aside netball tournament, 4km fun run and walk, jumping castle, face painting and music.

Govender is inviting teams to come through and register at a reasonable cost and support the initiative.

He said teams can sign up on the day of the event adding that registration tables will be open from 8am and the sports events are scheduled to start at 10:20am.

“The event has been designed to promote good health, good sportsmanship and sound values not only in our school but also in our communities. Public participation in promoting these values is invaluable in modelling our children.”

The event starts with a 4km fun run for the Cancer Association.

Govender said trophies will be presented to winning teams.
