The case against security guard Khuliso Gogela has been postponed to 27 September to allow the State to verify his residential address. The 26-year-old was arrested on 17 September by Johannesburg Central Police and made his first court appearance on 19 September at Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
Gogela is accused of armed robbery and assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm.
According to the spokesperson for Johannesburg Central Police, Captain Xoli Mbele, it is alleged that the accused robbed and assaulted a 36-year-old man in a flat in Joburg on 16 September.
It is understood that the victim was robbed while trying to assist a woman who was allegedly being assaulted by the accused. Mbele explained that the victim heard a woman screaming and decided to assist. While trying to help her, the man was allegedly robbed and assaulted by Gogela.
“The male [accused] was assaulting the lady and then grabbed the victim and [allegedly] stabbed him. He also put a hot iron on the victim’s face and took his wallet containing R4 000,” Mbele explained.
He said the victim manged to flee and was taken to hospital where he received treatment.
During his brief appearance in court, the accused was dressed in his security uniform and requested that he be represented by a State lawyer.
