Two nabbed by police

MELROSE – A CAP security officer chased the suspects and assisted police in their arrest.

Two wanted suspects were arrested on 3 October by Norwood police for allegedly stealing a vehicle in Rosebank.

The suspects, aged 44 and 47, were arrested after a shootout commenced with CAP security officers on the corner of Athol Oaklands Road and Sunnyside Street in Melrose.

“A CAP security officer was on patrol when he noticed a suspected vehicle and a chase ensued,” said Norwood Police Station spokesperson, Captain Elliot Tshivhase.

“The car sped away and suspects finally stopped in Melrose where they got out of the car and [allegedly] started shooting at the security officer,” said Tshivhase.

“The officer shot back and hit one of the suspects. He finally managed to apprehend both of them and the police were called to the scene and arrested the suspects.”

On investigation, the police discovered that the car was reported stolen at Rosebank Police Station.

The two were then detained at Norwood Police Station and were charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and attempted murder.

Tshivhase said on further investigation, it was discovered that the two suspects were also on the police wanted list.

“The two were also wanted by Hillbrow police for an alleged theft of motor vehicle as well.”

The two suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
