Sacred Heart College in Observatory has announced that they will be hosting a black tie gala dinner on 18 October to raise funds for the music, arts, drama and sports centre (MADS).
This exclusive event will be held at The Venue Melrose Arch and Sim Tshabalala, an alumnus of the college who has recently been appointed as the sole chief executive officer of Standard Bank, will host this event.

Chichi Maponya, the former chairperson of Brand SA and a parent at the school, will host the event alongside Tshabalala, said Lynn Walker, spokesperson for Sacred Heart College.
Walker said these top South African business people will be joined in a panel discussion by former minister of public service, Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi and chief executive officer of Business Arts South Africa, Michelle Constant.
“The topic of the panel discussion is the challenges and prospects of an African economy,” said Walker.
Walker added that the entertainers will include the indomitable Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse, comedians Kagiso Lediga and Joey Rasdien and jazz legend Paul Hanmer.
“Showcasing their musical talents, will, of course, be the Sacred Heart College marimba band and the jazz band that have both won acclaim in their respective musical circles.

“Sacred Heart College is a school that embraces 21st-century thinking and learning – creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and communication. Drama and music are key to these skills.”
Walker said drama broadens children’s perspective and ideas about the world and also develops their self-confidence to express ideas so that others will listen.
The study of music has been linked to improved performance, particularly in mathematics but across all subjects, she said.
“To this end, we are hoping to build a new music, art and drama centre – the MADS Centre – that will allow music and dramatic arts to grow and flourish at Sacred Heart and in the community around us.”

Tables of 10 are available at a cost of R16 000 (Gold) and R15 000 (Silver). Individual tickets cost R1 500.
